Director of Nursing

For over 30 years, Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services has been providing compassionate and dependable medical and non-medical home health care services throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Through our quality care, we help our clients with the medical, physical, and emotional strain that comes when home health care is needed the most. Preferred is currently hiring a director of nursing for our South Orange, NJ office.

Duties of Position

  • Assists with the planning, coordination, leading, controlling, and evaluating of home care services
  • Leads the coordination and management of home care clinical services
  • Acts as a liaison with the medical community, clients, and branch personnel

Responsibilities of Position

  • Directs and supervises professional and auxiliary personnel rendering client care services
  • Ensures that the client’s plan of care is created and executed as written
  • Ensures that an appropriate health care professional performs an assessment on a client’s needs and a reassessment when there is a significant health status change in the client’s condition
  • Develops standards that ensure the delivery of safe and effective services to clients and families
  • Plans, directs, and evaluates the implementation of service goals and objectives
  • Establishes and maintains effective channels of communication
  • Collaborates in the development and maintenance of an effective and efficient client care documentation system
  • Participates in selective committee meetings to promote compliance and efficiency
  • Maintains confidentiality of medical records, personnel records, etc., within the scope of their position
  • Works closely with the electronic medical record (EMR) to ensure client electronic charts are maintained, updated, and remain in compliance with company standards
  • Understands details around the knowledge of clinical workflow as it pertains to the use of EMR
  • Performs other duties as assigned in a professional matter

Job Conditions

  • Position is guided by goals and deadlines, which requires excellent organization and time management skills
  • May be required to bend, stoop, reach, and move clients as well as lift and carry more than 50 pounds
  • Travel is required within the service area of the office, and occasionally to professional and organizational meetings outside of the service area

Qualifications

  • Must be a registered nurse (RN) licensed in the state and have worked as an RN for at least three years
  • A minimum of one year of home health care and administrative supervisory experience in home health or equivalent experience is required
  • Knowledge and experience in trach, vent, and g-tube care
  • Ability to demonstrate self-confidence and positive attitude toward self and others, and maintain commitment and enthusiasm to achieve goals
  • Ability to identify and evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses
  • Customer-service oriented
  • Working knowledge of, or proficient in, Microsoft office applications, electronic medical records, and quick-to-learn proprietary software package
  • The ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing
