JOB DESCRIPTION

Respiratory Therapist 

For over 30 years, Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services, Inc. has been providing compassionate and dependable medical and non-medical home health care services throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Through our quality care, we help our clients with the medical, physical, and emotional strain that comes when home health care is needed the most. Preferred is currently hiring a Respiratory Therapist for our New Jersey and Pennsylvania offices. 

Duties of Position 

  1. Provides respiratory therapy services by educating nurses, conducting research, completing projects, and educating the community  

Responsibilities of Position 

  1. Prepares nursing personnel by providing training classes, mentoring, conducting clinical evaluations in the home, observing the participants performance, and coordinating nursing orientation to respiratory care. Performs monthly class followup to assure placement of trained nurses on skilled cases 
  2. Performs clinical assessment at the bedside with the clinical team 
  3. Determines requirements for treatment, precautions to be taken, medication dosages, and administration routes (compatible with physicians’ orders) 
  4. Informs clients and caregivers of current conditions and provides documentation with appropriate disease management techniques, such as breathing exercises, prescribed respiratory medications, and respiratory equipment 
  5. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications 
  6. Documents client care services by charting in client and clinical records 
  7. Participates in the discharge process by attending discharge planning meetings, home preparation, attendance at discharge, and followup visits 
  8. Performs annual respiratory competencies for clinical staff 
  9. On-call for nursing and client support 
  10. Performs other duties as assigned in a professional manner 

Job Conditions 

  1. Position is guided by goals and deadlines, which requires excellent organization and time management skills 
  2. Requires minimal lifting of office records and supplies for instruction 
  3. The ability to utilize respiratory equipment, PC, calculator, multi-line telephone, and other office equipment 
  4. The ability to communicate in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing 
  5. Travel is required within the service area of the office, and occasionally professional and organizational meetings outside of the service area 
  6. Requires flexibility with schedule changes  

Qualifications 

  1. Associate’s degree required, bachelors degree preferred 
  2. Valid New Jersey and Pennsylvania Respiratory Therapist licenseare required 
  3. Must have two years of respiratory therapist experience 
  4. Must have excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
